•
MEMORANDUM
Li
TO: Clive City Council
FROM: Compensation Committee
Gene Maddox, Chairman Ii
Bob Brownell
Ken Popken
Bill Schowalter
DATE: January 27, 1986
cc: Dean Dymond
• Willard Wray
Marjorie Roberts
The Compensation Committee recommends to' the Council the following:
1. The recommendations of the Joint Police /Council Committee
Report (Attachment A to this report).
Figures developed by Gary indicate that possible closure
increases for officers in addition to their merit increases
under the merit /closure system described in paragraph 2 of
the Joint Committee Report would be as follows:
Walker $ 21.00
Clark $ 85.00
Brauch $ 91.00
Smith- $295.00
Diddy $469.00
Logan $617.00
Lerch $624.00
2. The concepts contained in Attachment A. paragraph #1 (5%
merit allocation) and #4 (increase in group term life in-
surance from $15,000 to $20,000) should be equally appli-
cable to all eligible full time employees.
3. As you may recall last year, after reviewing pay practices
in Altoona, West Des Moines, Urbandale, Ankeny, Ames, Windsor
Heights, Pleasant Hill and Indianola (most of which have
some type of step system for pay advancement) for employees
comparable to our public works, police and city hall secre-
taries and our other public works and city hall employees, the
Committee determined a merit /closure system needed to be
adopted for these employees to assure their compensation re-
mains competitive with those holding similar positions in
comparison cities.
IND
