In that time bow
hunters have harvested 15 white tail deer. In that same six years, one doe could have had 12-15
fawns. While what is being done is helpful, conservation officials state it is doubtful there is a
significant impact on the population. Staff is seeking direction from the Board so as to research
options and bring back alternatives for further consideration. It was decided that the program
remain the same for this year. Staff will contact an expert in this field and have them attend a
meeting next fall or winter to provide the Board with more insight regarding this program.
The Tomorrow Plan - Discussion:
There are several groups in the metro area working together to do some long-range visioning for
the central Iowa area. One is working on the Tomorrow Plan and another group is working on a
planning effort called Capital Crossroads. Both are somewhat intermingled at least in respect to
parks and recreation. Staff has attended a meeting and there will be another meeting later this
month. The Tomorrow Plan group is requesting feedback via a small questionnaire. Staff
wanted to share these questions with the Board to get their perspective and input to present at the
upcoming Tomorrow Plan meeting.
