Following <br /> discussion,the Board indicated that they were comfortable that the current code language <br /> provided the appropriate life safety considerations and that the standards should be <br /> uniformly enforced for all residential rental properties. <br /> Specifically, the minimum standards for egress windows should be strictly enforced where <br /> required by the code (original construction shall not be made to comply with the current <br /> code standards provided that there has been no a modification, amendment or alteration to <br /> the original condition). Post construction modification such as the installation of slip-in <br /> pocket windows which reduce the net clear opening shall not be considered an equal <br /> equivalent to the original construction. Once identified, the post construction modifications <br /> shall be ordered to be replaced with egress windows that there compliant with the current <br /> code provisions. <br /> The Board indicated that additional homeowner and property manager education should be <br /> a priority. <br /> MOTION WAS MADE BY HARRINGTON, SECONDED BY VOORHEES to follow the <br /> strict interpretation of the code as it is written. <br />
