POSITION: Building Inspector <br />FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non - exempt <br />COUNCIL APPROVED <br />Date 7/3!/2.0/'{ <br />FACILITY AND WORK AREA: City of Clive City Hall facility and other locations generally <br />within the City of Clive <br />JOB SUMMARY: <br />Under general supervision of the Construction Services Administrator, performs work relating to <br />building inspection, nuisance abatement and zoning enforcement duties. Works with <br />Community Development Department co- workers to accomplish various assignments and <br />activities. Performs a variety of routine and complex technical work related to inspecting and <br />enforcing the provisions of the building code, residential building code, existing building code, <br />plumbing code, fuel gas code, mechanical code, electrical code, energy conservation code, <br />zoning ordinance and other applicable City ordinances. May also be assigned to assist with front <br />counter activities such as answering questions and issuance of permits. Performs other duties as <br />required. <br />REQUIRED DUTIES: <br />1. Assists the public at the community development counter as needed by answering the <br />phone and answering inquires or explaining procedures relating to city permits, codes and <br />inspections. <br />2. Attends meetings and various seminars relating to zoning and building inspection. <br />3. Performs field inspections and provides code interpretations relating to building <br />(structural, framing, footings, etc.), plumbing (utility, sanitary, storm sewer, etc.), <br />electrical and mechanical (HVAC, venting, gas lines, etc.) for commercial and residential <br />construction to ensure compliance with adopted building codes and ordinances. This <br />includes new construction, remodeling, additions, rehabilitations, rental properties and or <br />other structures (fences, garages, storage sheds, swimming pools, etc.). <br />4. Assists with residential and commercial building site plan reviews, provides on -going <br />assistance throughout the project by meeting with owners and contractors to assist in <br />compliance with codes. <br />5. Periodically inspects to monitor for violations of local code; responds to complaints of <br />potential code violations relating to signing, building occupancy, nuisances, hazardous <br />conditions, construction, land use, zoning, clearing, grading, filling, polluting or other <br />code related matters; initiates communications and enforcement actions in order to <br />achieve corrective action. <br />6. Provides information and provides guidance regarding applicable codes within area of <br />responsibility to architects, engineers, contractors, developers, property owners and other <br />interested parties. <br />
