We tend the see the same issues time and again: smoke detectors
not working,GFCI's not in place, etc.
Radon continues to be an issue in Iowa;the board members discussed radon mitigation and
the possibility that builders of new homes might be required to install radon systems.
Bannister explained that the home builders association she is part of is suggesting that the
requirement will only be for the piping and the home owner will put in the active portion of
the system if they want it.
There are occasions when a building permit is not required for a new commercial tenant
since they are only doing cosmetic changes. Discussion ensued on whether inspections
should be done on these projects. It was suggested that perhaps random inspections would
be appropriate.
Being no further business before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
