MINUTES <br />CLIVE LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES <br />Monday, April 20, 2015 <br />Council Chambers <br />1900 NW 114th Street <br />Board Members Present: Marquardt, Sheffield, Vance and Faux (arrived at 5:50 p.m.) <br />Also Present: Leisure Services Director Todd Seaman, Administrative Assistant Vikki Atha and <br />City Council Liaison John Edwards <br />The meeting was called to order by Marquardt at 5:51 p.m. <br />Faux made a motion to approve the Agenda, seconded by Sheffield. Ayes: Faux, Marquardt, <br />Sheffield and Vance. Nays: none. <br />Vance made a motion to approve the Minutes, seconded by Faux. Ayes: Faux, Marquardt, <br />Sheffield and Vance. Nays: none. <br />Citizen's Presentation /Public Comment: <br />None. <br />Old Business: <br />a. Election of Officers — Faux presented that Vance agreed to accept the position of <br />Chairperson due to previously elected Price moving out of state. <br />Sheffield made a motion to approve the slate as presented, seconded by Faux. Ayes: <br />Faux, Marquardt, Sheffield and Vance. Nays: none. <br />New Business: <br />a. Fundraising Committee Update — Faux presented items that were discussed at the <br />fundraising meeting. Library staff provided a list of items they need or would like to have <br />and the committee began prioritizing these items. Fundraising ideas include: Family Fun <br />Night at the Special Events Building; collecting school supplies; applying for a grant; <br />updating a brochure to have available at the library regarding donations; and creating a <br />web page on the City's website listing different ways to donate to the library. There would <br />be a link to the Clive Community Foundation website if they choose to donate directly to <br />that fund. The committee will meet again later this month. Staff is currently working on a <br />rough draft and will present it to the Board at an upcoming meeting. <br />Director's Report: <br />• Family winter reading program was successful. <br />• Library and Parks and Recreation staff participated in a staff development day and <br />participated in teambuilding and developmental activities. <br />• Circulation trends remain consistent for the fiscal year. <br />• When books have several holds on them, there is an option to rent additional copies to <br />accommodate the requests and return them when the peak has subsided. Staff is looking <br />into this service with DVDs as well to provide shorter wait times and better service to patrons. <br />• Summer reading will entail a Super Hero theme. <br />• Director Seaman has a goal to create better communication /connections between the Board <br />and City Council and is seeking input from the Board on expectations and ideas in order to <br />achieve this goal.
