POSITION: Senior Engineering Technician <br />FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non - exempt <br />FACILITY AND WORK AREA: City of Clive Public Works facility and other locations generally <br />within the City of Clive. <br />JOB SUMMARY: <br />Under general supervision of the Engineering Services Administrator, performs technical drafting of <br />complex engineering design to produce plans, drawings and maps of public infrastructure improvements <br />included in the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Typical projects include street, trail, sidewalk <br />and parking lot construction or maintenance, and sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water distribution <br />system upgrades or additions. Serves as project manager on select municipal design projects and provides <br />general guidance to co- workers on CAD and/or design issues as required. Work is of some complexity <br />and varies, requiring understanding and judgment within established city, state, and federal design <br />standards and procedures as well as a practical working knowledge of current construction practices. <br />Work may occasionally involve supervision of assigned part- time /seasonal employees. <br />JOB FUNCTIONS: <br />Examples of Essential Job Functions <br />1. Designs and drafts detailed construction drawings utilizing CAD software for new or existing <br />infrastructure and utility improvements. Possesses a working knowledge of the principles and <br />practices used in computerized drafting work. <br />2. Performs a wide variety of other drafting duties including preparing conceptual layout <br />drawings, converting conceptual designs into spatially and geometrically correct construction <br />documents, downloading raw field data and processing shots into a working topographic <br />map, inputting design parameters as dictated by accepted standards, revising construction <br />documents to incorporate review mark -ups, and preparing preliminary cost estimates. <br />3. Acts as project manager on select minor municipal design and construction projects. <br />Management duties may include, but not be limited to, coordinating design aspects and plan <br />preparation associated with production of final construction documents, addressing <br />construction issues as they relate to the plan documents and preparing contractor partial <br />payment applications. <br />4. Gathers and provides information to contractors, consultants, city employees /departments, <br />and the public including as -built drawings, aerial photographs, easements, right -of -way <br />information and utility locations. <br />5. Assists in maintaining and updating global information system (GIS) base mapping to <br />facilitate mapping and asset management of City infrastructure and to organize and manage <br />electronic file structure. <br />6. Utilizes global positioning system (GPS) to locate City infrastructure systems such as <br />sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water mains, signs and fiber optics. <br />
