A committee will be
formed for the purpose of reviewing this proposal. The final draft proposed by the committee
may be presented to the Park Board for review.

Trail Location Markers for Emergencies-
The mileage markers that were installed on the Greenbelt Trail a few years ago are not on a
911 grid system. Homeland Security has developed a National Grid System that would enable
a 6 digit number to pinpoint a location within 100 meters. With the renumbering of markers
every ¼ mile, Westcom Dispatch could trace the location of an emergency call on the
Greenbelt Trail. West Des Moines and Urbandale are also looking into this system for their
trails.

Crawford moved to approve implementation of the trail markers allowing coordination with
the cities of Urbandale and West Des Moines. The motion was seconded by Otte. All
signified aye, motion approved.

Capital Improvement Plan-
Staff presented a draft of the new Capital Improvement Plan. The following projects were
discussed with an estimate of costs: Alice’s Road Park Development, Aquatic Center Bridge
and Trail, Aquatic Center Improvements, Community Center Development, Greenbelt Trail
Replacement, Karp Park Improvements, Linnan Park Wading Pool, Microware Trail, Northern
Neighborhood Land Acquisition, Campbell Recreation Miniature Golf, Skate Park
