Motion passed
Motion to Approve August 26 Minutes
unanimously. : by Dikis, seconded by Keating.
Motion passed unanimously.

Budget Review
: September budget was reviewed with no changes.

Website Review
: The website review ensued with direction from Shanks, and the City is
now the placeholder for the PAAC website. The City web team is in the process of
making some changes to the site; however, the Commission was given the opportunity to
review current content and make suggestions/corrections/additions. The comment that the
site should contain more art and less copy was a common thread. Schmidt acknowledged
and will attempt to move pictures of art to a more prominent placement, whether they
will be small thumbnails that can be clicked-on for an enlarged popup or other solutions.

The question was posed to the Commission if submissions for an Artist Registry was
desired. This would enable the selection committees to speed up the process, by
maintaining a go-to list of possible candidates already contained on the City database.
The Iowa Arts Council has a registry that allows artists to submit information and the
Commission would like to see that as an option for the City. Halfhill commented that it
would be desirable to include not only seasoned public artists, but support emerging
artists to enable them to join in the public arts participation. Dikis suggested looking at
the Iowa Arts Council to see what they gather as far as information on each artist. The
Commission has requested that Schmidt move forward with the research and disseminate
to the members for review. Final comments regarding control and jurying suggested that
perhaps a “filter-panel” should review the art prior to uploading into database.

New Business
:
Shanks floated the idea for the PAAC to partner with the Clive Historical Society and
Clive Chamber of Commerce in their 2009 annual open house. Shanks thought the
opportunity might be right to invite Marc Moulton to that event where he could preview
and discuss the art work at the intersection near the Swanson House. Commission
members were positive in response and requested the Shanks present a formal proposal to
the Commission.
