<br />Library Board Minutes <br />City of Clive <br />Monday, December 21, 2009 <br /> <br />The meeting of the Clive Library Board of Trustees was held Monday, December 21, 2009, at <br />Clive City Hall at 6:00 P.M. <br /> <br />The Meeting was called to order by President Durick at 6:01 p.m. <br />Board Members Present: Durick, Palestini, Janssen, Hendrickson. Faux joined the meeting at <br />6:17 p.m. Absent: Marquardt, Sinkler. <br />Also present: Director Hibbert, Administrative Assistant Hungerford, Central Iowa Library <br />Service Area Administrator Roy Kenagy. <br /> <br />Motion by Janssen, second by Palestini to approve the Agenda. Ayes: Janssen, Palestini, <br />Hendrickson, and Durick. Nays: None. Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Citizen’s Presentation/Public Comment: None <br /> <br />Motion by Palestini, second by Janssen to approve the Consent Items. 4a. Minutes dated <br />November 16, 2009; 4b. Financial Reports November 2009; 4c. Revenue Reports November <br />2009; 4d. Attendance Reports November 2009; 4e. Circulation Reports November 2009. <br />Ayes: Palestini, Janssen, Durick and Hendrickson. Nays: None. Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Director’s Report: <br />The Assistant City Manager decided on an alternative to displaying the Public Arts Commission <br />art tiles in the Library. <br />The Library received two gifts recently. A $250 gift will be used to purchase children’s books <br />and a $500 gift will be used to purchase books on CD. <br />118 people attended Dan Wardell’s Story Time program. Mr. Wardell has a children’s program <br />on IPTV. He encouraged children to turn off their televisions, play outside, use their <br />imaginations and read books. <br />Director Hibbert provided a status report on the proposed budget for FY 10-11. <br />A new library space planning worksheet was provided to the Board for their review and future <br />discussion. <br />Fines and fee schedules of other libraries were given to the Board for possible discussion before <br />the Clive Library’s fines and fees are reviewed in the Spring. <br />Director Hibbert is obtaining additional information on a new borrowing service being provided <br />by a public library in California where for a monthly fee a patron can borrow materials and keep <br />them for as long as they want with no late fees. <br /> <br />Shared Mobile Library Laptop Lab: <br />CILSA has coordinated the purchase and use of a shared portable laptop lab. 15 libraries in <br />Dallas and Polk Counties and one in Madison County will share the laptop lab on a rotating <br />basis. Each library will have it for a one week period three times during the year and are allowed <br />to trade dates with each other. There are a total of eleven laptops. The initial cost for Clive <br />would be $1230. An annual maintenance fee not to exceed $125 will be assessed to cover parts <br />and upgrades to software. <br />Motion by Palestini, second by Faux to approve the Shared Mobile Laptop Lab project and <br />forward it to City Council. Ayes: Palestini, Faux, Janssen, Hendrickson, and Durick. Nays: <br />None.
