<br />Clive Public Arts Advisory Commission Meeting <br />Wednesday, April 28, 2010 <br />2410 Terrace Road, Des Moines <br />Call to order: <br />Chairman Bill Dikis called the meeting to order at 5:35 PM. <br />Members Present: <br /> Yvonne Brune, Dikis, Chaden Halfhill, Anne Keating, Chuck Kuba, Tracy Levine, <br />Karen Leibold, Tom Murphy, and Linda Shanks <br />Staff and Guests Present: <br /> Lisa Schmidt, Clive Assistant City Manager <br />Motion to approve agenda and minutes <br /> made by Shanks and seconded by Leibold. Motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />Announcements from Chair <br />- Dikis commented that Art in the Park at Southern Hills would be <br />happening on May 8 and 9 in case anyone was interested in going. <br />Budget Review- <br /> Schmidt reviewed the updated budget. More Shuler donations were received and more <br />Sticks tiles were sold. Dikis suggested that the details on page two of the budget handout be tied into the <br />first page. <br />Website Review- <br /> Shanks provided an update on the Artist Registry. Levine had talked to Bruce <br />Williams at the Iowa Arts Council regarding how the Council's Artist Registry works. The Iowa Arts <br />Council registry asks artists for a one page bio, one page artist statement, and up to 12 examples of the <br />artist's work. Kuba asked if we needed an artist registry if the Council already has one. Halfhill <br />commented that it depends what we want to do with the registry. The Iowa Arts Council registry is <br />primarily for Iowa artists (or out of state artists represented by Iowa galleries). Shanks commented she <br />would like to see out of state artists included in our registry. Dikis asked the sub-committee to work on a <br />recommendation regarding whether Clive should have its own artist registry and, if so, what should be <br />included. <br />New Business- <br />Dikis asked whether the Commission was interested in having a presence in the <br />Downtown Art Festival. Levine stated that non-profits had to be invited in order to have <br />a booth. Participants are limited to Prairie Meadow grant recipients. She will check on <br />whether the Commission qualifies. <br />Schmidt provided the Commission members with a list of the persons which were <br />recommended for the Shuler artist selection panel. Dikis suggested that the Shuler <br />Elementary School architect and/or landscape designer be added to the panel as non- <br />voting members. A motion was made by Halfhill to approve the Shuler artist selection <br />panel. It was seconded by Keating and unanimously passed. <br />The Shuler Request for Qualifications (RFQ) was reviewed by the Commission. <br />Murphy, who has been working on filming Shuler Mining Camp alumni stories, provided <br />the Commission with an update on that project. The video is expected to be completed in <br />June. The Shuler alumni stories deal with the sense of community surrounding camp life <br />(core values, working hard, dealing with injuries and death of miners). It was suggested <br />that the RFQ have a link so that artists could view the Shuler alumni stories. <br />Commission members provided Schmidt with suggested changes to the RFQ. <br /> <br />
