Leibold
volunteered to work with Schmidt on budget format.
Website Review-
Shanks provided an update on the artist registry and showed the new format. Leibold
suggested we add the Clive logo to the registry. Dikis suggested that the term 'Preferred media' be used
rather than 'Preferred medium' and that 'Specialty' be used rather than 'Specialize in'. Shanks will alsoadd
a spot for the artists' website address. The Commission held a discussion on whether the Cliveshould
have its own artist registry or rely on the Iowa Arts Council registryto find artists for future projects.
The Commission consensus was to begin using the Clive artist registry. Schmidt will issue a press release
regarding the new artist registry.
New Business-
The Shuler Request for Qualifications (RFQ) was provided to the Commission and a list
of artists for the project. Murphy, who has been working on filming Shuler Mining
Camp alumni stories, provided the Commission with an update on that project. Murphy
advised the Commission that the initial meeting of the Shuler artist selection committee
had been held. The RFQ will be revised to make itclear that the artist chosen for the
project will be required to participate in a Shuler Elementary School residency (which
will be paid for by the School). Schmidt indicated that since we won't find out if Clive is
awarded a $25,000 Iowa Community Cultural Grant until mid-June she wanted the
Commission's advice on what dollar amount to use in the RFQfor the project's budget.
After a discussion on the topic, it was agreed that the RFQ would state the anticipated
budget for the project was $33,000 and could be higher if the grant is approved. After a
discussion on the list of artists, a motion was made by Keating to approve the list and it
was seconded by Murphy. The motion passed unanimously.
Dikis asked whether the Commission wanted to approve an award for a business who has
participated in a public art project in Clive. It was decided that the Commission should
establish a policy on how this will be done in the future. Dikis and Levine will do
preparatory work on a policy.
Old Business-
Schmidt handed out a schedule for the times Commissionmemberswill be selling Sticks
tiles at the Friends of Clive Public Library Book Sale.
